Magento has already carved a niche for itself in the eCommerce platform industry. It boasts of millions of users worldwide which are increasing each year. There are a variety of reasons with different combining factors that contribute to Magento’s popularity. These reasons might be support resources, community, open-platform advantages, etc. In the light of all such advantages and popularity, Magento is soon becoming an industry ace where not many people criticize its features.

Here, we will analyse Magento 2.2 which is the latest release and examine whether all the excitement about its new features is genuine or just a hype created by loyalist. We will look at the new features and their utility to reach a consensus on whether Magento 2.2 is as good as it proclaims.

B2B Features

One of the most important feature of Magento 2.2 is related to business to business (B2B) model. The developers proclaim that this is breakthrough feature for companies who deal with companies rather than individual consumers. Previously, it was difficult for consumer companies to interact with main company because on multiple professionals’ involvement. The new feature makes it easy for companies to create accounts that can be accessed by multiple employees. It goes onto giving you the right to determine the level of access you want to give.

I feel that this is a good development and is actually targeting an area where improvement was required. I have personally been in a situation like this and I welcome this feature. Now being the first-time addition, a few glitches can certainly be ignored in this case. But, all in all the B2B companies that use Magento should immediately upgrade to Magento 2.2 and set up their account.

Performance and Security

Magento 2.2 has made changes in its security structure by removing serialize and unserialize from the codes. Additionally, it has made changes to security patches to make the entire platform less vulnerable. It also integrated previous extensions like Signified to detect frauds. In terms of performance, speed is the most important indicator. The Magento 2.2 claims to have made changes in how indexers work and incorporated plug-ins to improve the performance.

Well, I did not feel much of a performance difference while using the webstore that had upgraded to Magento 2.2. As a user, the security changes are also not something that I can assess. Also, inclusion of Signified is a subscription-based feature. However, the company recommends updating to newer version to avoid security vulnerability because patches in previous versions might put you at risk. In this context, I would say, performance is not much of a highlight but company’s recommendation regarding security certainly should be paid heed to.

New Tools

There are a couple of new tools like Magento Scan Tool or Magento Social which are creating quite a buzz in the industry. While Magento scan tool allows you to monitor vulnerabilities automatically and also fix reported issues, Magento Social using extensions to link your store and your corporate social media accounts increasing the conversion rate by leading interested customers to your website.

In my opinion, these tools are certainly handy and help in streamlining your tasks. As a store admin or owner, you would not have to rely on manual efforts of your team for doing tasks like scan and product update on social media banners. For these features, it is worth a try and I would say that these are certainly a value addition.

After reviewing the B2B aspects, performance, security, and some new tools, I would say that Magento 2.2 Development in India is a hit for me. Please share your reviews and experiences with our readers by posting a comment with your details below.
